the crazy diamond doesn't shine anymore

Venerdi' scorso, mentre tanta gente aspettava la finale dei Mondiali di Calcio, Roger Barrett, meglio noto come Syd Barrett, e' morto.
Syd Barrett e' un simbolo della musica moderna. Fu l'anima creativa dei Pink Floyd, band che contribui' a fondare. Fu uno dei protagonisti della psichedelia inglese. Le droghe e la malattia mentale lo allontanarono dai microfoni e dalla chitarra.
Barrett aveva smesso di suonare quasi trent'anni fa, ma ha lasciato una gigantesca eredita'. Attraverso l'esperienza con i Pink Floyd e i suoi dischi solisti, ha rappresentato (e rappresenta) fonte d'ispirazione per almeno due generazioni di musicisti. Il suo suono e i testi visionari restano fondamentali nella storia del rock.
Salutiamo un personaggio che non saremo mai in grado di comprendere completamente.

Last Friday, while a lot of people were waiting for the Finals of the Football World Cup, Roger Barret, also known as Syd Barrett, died.
Syd Barrett is a symbol of moder music. He was the creative soul of Pink Floyd, the band which he contributed to found. He was among the protagonists of english psychedelic music. Drugs and mental illness brought him away from microphones and guitars.
Barrett hasn't been playing for 30 years, but he has left a gigantic heritage.
He, through his Pink Floyd experience and his solo albums, has represented (and still represents) a source of inspiration for, at least, two generations of musicians. His sound and visionary lyrics remain fundamental in rock history.
We say goodbye to a character we'll never be able to understand completely.
